99% Problems

16 Nov

Rapper and entrepreneur, Jay-Z, experienced some less than desirable backlash from Rocawear’s latest “Occupy All Streets” t-shirt. In an official announcement made by Rocawear, they stated that none of the proceeds would be used to monetarily support the Occupy Wall Street movement, which upset a lot of protesters, and understandable so. Many of the occupiers felt that Jay-Z was exploiting them for profit. I mean come on Jay-Z, the Occupy movement is essentially about corporate greed and claims to represent the 99% of the population (as opposed to the 1% where the majority of wealth is held)… did you really think you could sell these t-shirts and it would go unnoticed by the people that are protesting this exact problem?

Inna P for Harper’s Bazaar Singapore

14 Nov

For their 10th anniversary, Harper’s Bazaar Singapore shot this amazing editorial, “In the Mood For Love”, in the streets of Singapore’s own Chinatown. We love the contrast of the film noir-esque background against the colorful designs of Mary Katrantzou, Mark Jacobs, Diane Von Furstenberg & Prada. But what really captured our attention was Inna P’s glowing yellow hair; talk about redefining blonde…

Cheers to 20 Years of Being Dazed & Confused

8 Nov

For 20 years Dazed & Confused Magazine has been one of the most ground-breaking, influential publications in the fashion, art, and culture realm. So to honor the extraordinary work of legendary photographer Rankin and self-proclaimed cultural enthusiast Jefferson Heck (the two founding editors), an exhibition at the Somerset House will show some of their most cutting-edge content over the past 2 decades. This coincides with the release of the magazines anniversary book, “Making It Up As We Go Along.” The exhibition will run from November 4th – January 29th and will feature Dazed’s “visual transformations” over the years. Dazed & Confused Magazine has used music, film and aesthetics to inspire our generation, so Happy Birthday Dazed and to many more.

The Reason February Doesn’t Seem So Cold And Miserable Anymore

3 Nov

Mary Katrantzou left us completely entranced by the playful patterns and vibrant colors in her Spring 2012 collection. Realizing that the four-figure price tags were slightly out of our price range, we couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for ourselves. Luckily for us, that sorrow only lasted for a few months, because Topshop has just announced their latest collaboration with Mary Katrantzou! The collection will be available in February and will consist of 14 pieces. One picture has been released; and as you can see, it is very similar to Katrantzou’s mainline designs. Usually we dread the winter, but now February couldn’t come fast enough.

Hermes Turns Window Shopping Into An Art Exhibit

30 Oct

German Art Director, Sarah Illenberger, has created the latest window display for Hermes’ Berlin store. Using only paper and Hermes boxes as materials, the installation – titled Le Parade – is both charming and inventive. There’s nothing we like more than a little art – fashion combo, so thank-you Sarah Illenberger for giving us our daily fix.

Tokyo Fashion Week Condensed

30 Oct

Christian Dada

We’ve loved every minute of the fashion week coverage from Milan, Paris, New York and London… But we have to admit, there is something special about the lesser publicized fashion weeks around the world. Wrapping up their runway events this weekend, Tokyo Fashion Week has had some amazing collections by some of the most daring and unique fashion designers in the world. Japanese fashion is so original and diverse; It can range from quirky and loud to serenely beautiful and everything in between. So, with that being said, we decided that we had an obligation to share some of our favorite Spring 2012 styles from Japan’s catwalks. Hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Gareth Pugh x MAC

26 Oct

London based fashion designer, Gareth Pugh, is the latest collaborator for MAC Cosmetics’ designer collection. Comprised of holographic nail polish, deep plum-colored lipstick and geometric packaging, the collection is in true Pugh form. Items will be available November 23rd through December 23th, though we wonder how many people will have “Purple Glitter Lip-gloss” on their Christmas lists.

Good-bye Buyers Remorse

24 Oct

Imagine if there was a way that you never had to feel guilty about shopping again. What if, in fact, you could actually do good by buying your favorite designer’s clothes? Dream no more, because the online shopping site, Community Collection, gives customers that philantropic experience. Community Collection donates 20% of each sale designer-specified causes, and has raised over $1600 dollars since it was launched on October 18th. The website has limited-time boutiques ( kind of like Gilt Group) and currently sponsors 15 causes. Some of the first designers to participate are Alexander Wang, Equipment, Adam, and Current/Elliot which have partnered with Operation Homefront, American Cancer Society, Goods for Good and Girls Inc. respectively. This is seriously such an amazing initiative, and we couldn’t have been more pleased to stumble across this website. As if we didn’t have enough excuses to shop already….

Rag & Bone & Miranda

21 Oct

Miranda Kerr is the latest addition to Rag & Bone’s DIY Project. Her photos were taken by fellow Victoria’s Secret model, Lily Aldridge (who was also in a DIY campaign) and her husband, Orlando Bloom, while they were in New Zealand. Although the photos couldn’t be any more amazing, we have to admit that it’s a little disheartening how perfect she is even without make-up or editing. Sigh.

Allure Korea Celebrates 100 Issues

20 Oct

To celebrate their 100th issue, Allure Korea is featuring an editorial with Lee Na Young to showcase “100 years of beauty.” The Korean actress was photographed in looks inspired by iconic trends over the past century, from the 2000s to ’50s french chic and ’60s mod. Allure released four teaser images, but the rest will be debuted in their November 2011 issue. It’s an amazing way to mark the 100th issue, and judging by the preview images, its going to be an amazing spread.
