Swedish Hasbeens SS12

1 Jun

“Her name was Anita and she was the hottest mum in all of southern Sweden in the 1970’s. While smoking Camel she screamed at her kids until her curlers fell out and just looked fabulous in her white high-heeled clogs.”

In the Summer of 2006 they found the shoes she wore (300 pairs of red, white and black beautiful clogs from the 70’s) in the basement of an old clog factory and brought them to Stockholm.  Voila, Swedish Hasbeens were born!  They have since been releasing  awesome pieces inspired by the “Hasbeens that once ruled the planet.” They are still handmade, in small factories, with some of the most eco-friendly methods known. How could you not love them!

Here’s the collection – saddle shoes, driving shoes, beach sandals, bowling boots and more. Something for the retro lover in us all.

Friday Favorite: Morana Kranjec

1 Jun

Croatian designer, Morana Kranjec, takes a bit of inspiration from the art of origami to create mind-blowing pieces of wearable art.  Based in Zagreb, Kranjec uses several textile based techniques that are inspired by her own artistic, fashion, and cultural focuses that result in pieces that could easily double as prized museum possessions and original pieces for the human form. Check her out!

Fashion Technology

20 Feb

London-based designer, Richard Nicoll has made us happy little androids! No more having to run out of battery power in the middle of the day!

Partnered with Vodafone, Nicoll created a bag that can power up your blackberry, iPhone and android while on the go! The bag, which has the classic style much like a Birkin, needs to be initially charged by magnetic plug. Once its at full power, it can keep your mobile device or tablet charged for up to two days!

Richard Nicoll’s power bag will be available by the end of Spring!

Impulse Purchase: Doo.Ri for Macy’s Impulse

4 Feb

While Macy’s may be boosting that they are more “high end” than JC Penney’s, the proof is in the pudding, as they say! Released last year, Macy’s Impulse line has had a string of fashion designers create a line for the notable department store. First, Giambattista Valli then the very well-known Karl Lagerfeld, but their more recent collaboration is with someone a little less know, but who certainly has the designs to still make a splash!

Doo. Ri Chung, who worked in her parent’s dry-cleaning shop in New Jersey for years, brings a dynamic line to Macy’s in just a few weeks. Fashion on a budget comes in all shapes and sizes and in the 33-piece collection you’ll be able to find knit maxi dresses, tanks and tees, a couple of work-friendly blouses, bright cocktail dresses that could stand up to a casual wedding, and of course, every girl’s must-have, the LBD (little Black Dress).

These great items and more will hit Macy’s stores nation wide on February 15th!
